Ramsay Sime Darby Health Care Acquires Manipal Hospitals, Klang
Selangor

Leading healthcare provider Ramsay Sime Darby Health Care (RSDH) is further strengthening its portfolio of world-class healthcare facilities with the signing of a Share Purchase Agreement with Manipal Health Enterprises Pvt. Ltd (MHEPL), for the acquisition of 100% ownership of Manipal Hospitals, Klang.

RSDH, which is equally owned by Sime Darby Berhad and Australia’s Ramsay Health Care, acquired the facility from MHEPL’s wholly-owned Singapore subsidiary, Manipal Health Enterprises International Pte. Ltd.

The acquisition will see the rebranding of the 220 bed capacity hospital, which is located within close proximity of several residential areas in the Bukit Tinggi township in Klang, into a tertiary care private facility which geographically complements RSDH’s other healthcare facilities. Accredited with the Malaysian Society for Quality in Health (MSQH), the hospital is currently equipped with five operating theatres as well as 15 CCU and ICU beds. It also has a 1.5T MRI scanner, catheterisation laboratory and 24-hour emergency service, among others.

Established in 2016 as a purpose-built facility with over 30 specialty services and Klang’s only state-of-the art trauma centre, the hospital’s emergency medicine services are led by experienced trauma specialists. Its extensive tertiary medical care ranges from cardiology, nephrology and neurosurgery to plastic surgery, psychiatry and dental. The 7-storey hospital building occupies a built-up area of 362,000 sq ft with more than 300 car park bays.

Group Chief Executive Officer of RSDH, Raymond Chong, said, “The acquisition allows us to leverage on a strategic opportunity to unlock more value operationally by expanding our reach to deliver RSDH’s distinctive brand of award-winning healthcare. Not only will Manipal Hospital become part of the Group’s network of well-known hospitals, it will be supported by Subang Jaya Medical Centre as the integrated hub for referrals in the Klang Valley. There will also be the additional benefit of RSDH’s internationally-certified operational standards and extensive human resources expertise.”

Group Chief Executive Officer of Sime Darby Berhad, Dato' Jeffri Salim Davidson, said, “This acquisition by RSDH solidifies its position in the highly competitive healthcare sector and fits well with the growth story that we have envisaged for our joint venture company. Sime Darby will continue to support RSDH’s pursuit of  viable organic and inorganic growth prospects to leverage on the tremendous potential of this sector.”

Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Ramsay Health Care Limited, Craig McNally, said, “With accelerated growth across the global healthcare sector, RSDH’s latest acquisition is well aligned to their current capabilities whilst enabling RSDH to continue serving healthcare needs across Asia. This resonates well with Ramsay Health Care’s growth strategy and reinforces our market leading-position across our markets.”

According to RSDH, the Klang hospital’s clinical services will operate as usual and patients can continue with their existing care.

With the acquisition, RSDH owns four hospitals in Malaysia. The hospitals under the Group currently include Subang Jaya Medical Centre, Ara Damansara Medical Centre and ParkCity Medical Centre. All three medical centres are MSQH and JCI accredited. RSDH also has three JCI-accredited hospitals in Indonesia and a Day Surgery Centre in Hong Kong.
