Tengku Dato’ Sri Azmil Zahruddin Raja Abdul Aziz, 53, Malaysian, is an Independent Non-Executive Director of Sime Darby Berhad. He was appointed to the Board on 1 August 2023.
Tengku Azmil started his career with Price Waterhouse London in 1993 and later joined PricewaterhouseCoopers Hong Kong where he served as a Senior Manager from 1999 to 2002. Tengku Azmil then returned to Malaysia, where he was Chief Financial Officer and subsequently Chief Executive Officer of Penerbangan Malaysia Berhad. He was Executive Director of Investments of Khazanah Nasional Berhad (“Khazanah”) from 2011 to 2018 and Chief Investment Officer/Deputy Managing Director from 2018 to 2022, responsible for Khazanah’s investment portfolio. Prior to joining Khazanah, Tengku Azmil served as the Chief Executive Officer/Managing Director of Malaysia Airlines from 2009 to 2011, having previously held the position of Chief Financial Officer/Executive Director.
Tengku Azmil is currently the Board Chairperson of CelcomDigi Berhad. He has held directorships in Axiata Group Berhad, IHH Healthcare Berhad, and Malaysian Global Innovation & Creativity Centre Berhad (MaGIC). He was also previously Chairman of UEM Group Berhad.
Tengku Azmil is currently a member of the Malaysian Accounting Standards Board.
Tengku Azmil holds a degree in Economics from the University of Cambridge, UK. He is a Chartered Accountant and member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) and a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW). Tengku Azmil is also an Associate of the Association of Corporate Treasurers (ACT).
