Malaysia’s aspiration of becoming a regional hub for healthcare took a positive step forward today with the official opening of Sime Darby Medical Centre, Ara Damansara. The latest medical facility by the Sime Darby Healthcare Group is the country’s first stand-alone Centre of Excellence focusing on Heart, Brain, Spine and Joint cases.
DYMM Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj Ibni Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Alhaj, Sultan of Selangor, officiated the opening of the medical centre. Also present were YAB Tan Sri Dato' Seri Abdul Khalid Bin Ibrahim, Menteri Besar of Selangor; YBhg. Dato’ Mohd Bakke Salleh, Sime Darby President and Group Chief Executive; YBhg. Tan Sri Dato' Dr. Wan Mohd. Zahid Mohd. Noordin, Chairman of Sime Darby Healthcare; as well as other senior State and Federal government officials and distinguished guests.
At the hospital opening, YBhg Tan Sri Dato' Dr. Wan Mohd. Zahid, said, "Over the last two decades, the Sime Darby Healthcare Group has scored numerous achievements and milestones in Malaysia’s medical history. Our flagship medical centre, the Sime Darby Medical Centre, Subang Jaya, is today a multiple award winning private hospital that complies with globally-recognised standards."

According to YBhg. Tan Sri Dato' Dr. Wan Mohd. Zahid, there is currently a need for greater capacity to treat heart, brain, spine and joint related cases in Malaysia and the region. "Sime Darby Medical Centre Ara Damansara is specially tailored to meet those needs with our three Centres of Excellence."
"For instance, our Paediatric and Adult Heart Centres are led by specialists whose reputation has been built upon decades of cutting-edge practices and innovation. In addition, we have state-of-the-art equipment such as an EP (electrophysiology) unit with a 3D mapping system. In essence, this helps us detect and treat more types of heart diseases in less time," he explained.
Built at a cost of RM240 million, the Sime Darby Medical Centre, Ara Damansara will eventually have 220 beds, 30 clinic suites, 5 operating theatres and 2 cardiovascular laboratories. It will also have a fully-equipped, rehabilitation facility which includes neuro-spinal rehabilitation (stroke and spinal injuries), paediatric therapy, musculoskeletal rehabilitation, occupational therapy, hydrotherapy and speech therapy. In addition, the facility features a comprehensive multisensory room for sensory stimulation for children with autism, learning difficulties, attention deficit disorder and hyper-active disorder. Its Early Intervention Programme helps to prepare children with learning disabilities to cope in a classroom setting.
The Sime Darby Medical Centre, Ara Damansara is also specially designed to look and feel less like a hospital and more like a place to feel comfortable and relaxed. The hospital’s tranquil setting within the upscale neighborhood of Ara Damansara and Saujana provides for a conducive healing environment for its patients.
